On 20 February 2026, Czech BCSD<\/strong> participated via its Vicepresident Petr Dovolil in the \u201cHarmonizing Global Carbon Accounting under the COP30 Action Agenda\u201c webinar<\/strong>, a virtual event taking stock of the collaboration between the GHG Protocol (\u201cGHGP\u201c<\/strong>) and International Organization for Standardization (\u201cISO\u201c<\/strong>) to prepare new harmonized carbon accounting standards (\u201eWebinar\u201c<\/strong>). The Webinar was the first in a series of webinars to advance joint work to harmonize global carbon accounting standards under the COP Action Agenda. This follows last year\u2019s announcement of an ISO\u2013GHGP partnership, which aims to bring greater consistency, comparability and trust to the way carbon emissions are measured, accounted for and reported worldwide. The Webinar brought together representatives from government, business and finance at a pivotal moment for climate action. As speakers noted, the conversation has moved from setting targets to achieving measurable results<\/strong>. Delivering on climate commitments now depends on systems that are consistent, credible and scalable<\/strong>. In her opening remarks,\u00a0Bruna Cerqueira, Coordinator of the COP30 Presidency Action Agenda, highlighted the importance of alignment: \u201cCarbon accounting is one of those key measures where we need to accelerate action in industry. That\u2019s why it\u2019s so important that ISO and GHG Protocol have launched this plan to accelerate the harmonization of carbon accounting \u2013 it\u2019s crucial for us to move forward.\u201d<\/em> The ISO\u2013GHGP partnership seeks to align corporate, product and project-level emissions accounting within a\u00a0coherent global framework<\/strong>. The objective is not to lower ambition, but to strengthen accountability across value chains<\/strong> by improving comparability and usability of emissions information.<\/p>\n

Marco Rossi, Director of Standardization at ISO, emphasized the practical dimension of the work: \u201cCarbon accounting needs to be clear and cost-effective for those who implement it. <\/em>ISO and GHGP are creating a toolbox of corporate and product emissions accounting<\/em><\/strong>. This is powerful \u2013 you have one place to go \u2013\u00a0one coherent set of definitions, datasets and language. Businesses will no longer have to pick and choose<\/strong>.\u201d<\/em> A harmonized system can enable low-carbon products to compete on a level playing field, support investors in making informed decisions and help direct capital toward credible decarbonization pathways. As\u00a0Anna Stanley-Radi\u00e8re, Head of Partnerships and External Affairs at GHGP, noted: \u201cIt is critical that we build upon and <\/em>leverage the carbon accounting work that\u2019s already there, strengthen it and bring in new ideas.<\/em><\/strong>\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

The message from the Webinar was clear: fragmentation in carbon accounting is our greatest enemy<\/strong> and a single, climate science-aligned global framework is essential to reduce complexity and accelerate action<\/strong>.\u00a0The Webinar marks the beginning of a broader engagement process throughout 2026.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
