The European Commission has approved 54 new clean industry projects under the EU Innovation Fund, which will receive a total of €2.7 billion in support. The projects were selected under the Innovation Fund 2024 – Net-Zero Technologies call and are entering the implementation phase. Among the 54 approved projects, not a single one is implemented in the Czech Republic.
The selected projects cover 17 Member States and 17 industrial sectors, including energy-intensive industries (cement, lime, refineries, chemical industry), renewable energy sources, the production of components for clean technologies and zero-emission mobility in air, maritime and road transport. Once operational, the projects should prevent approximately 210 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions in the first ten years.
Historically, Czechia’s involvement in the Innovation Fund has been limited. So far, only three Czech projects have succeeded (green hydrogen, battery thermal management and flat glass furnace). These projects received a total support of approximately €20 million, representing approximately 0.13% of the total allocation of the Innovation Fund, which has so far supported approximately 250 projects with a total of around EUR 15 billion.
Detailed information on the approved projects, their technological focus and geographical distribution is available in the interactive dashboard at this link.
