On 6 May 2026, the European Commission adopted the first ever EU Anti‑Poverty Strategy, accompanied by a Communication on strengthening the European Child Guarantee and a proposal addressing housing exclusion. The Communication is available on this link.
The Strategy aims to reduce the number of people at risk of poverty or social exclusion in the EU by at least 15 million by 2030 and sets out a longer‑term ambition to help eradicate poverty by 2050.
A strong emphasis is placed on children, access to essential services, adequate income support, inclusive labour markets, and improving the lives and rights of persons with disabilities as part of a comprehensive social policy approach.
