The meeting opened with remarks by CTU Rector Michal Pěchouček and Dean of the Faculty of Transportation Sciences Ondřej Přibyl, who emphasized that transport is a horizontal topic cutting across society and industry.
Miroslav Svitek presented his vision, mission, and priorities for the National Centre for Transport 4.0.
Tomáš Kantor spoke about cooperation with cities and regions in preparing new Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMP) – taking into account the needs of metropolitan areas as well as rural regions, where the average age of the population is rising and it is necessary to prevent so‑called transport poverty. Key factors include infrastructure development and a paradigm shift: from static documents to digital infrastructure and its financing.
According to EU regulations, Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans must be completed by the end of 2027. There are currently 431 such plans across the EU, aiming to connect major transport hubs in Europe. 👉 Do you know which 10 urban agglomerations in the Czech Republic are part of this plan?
Roman Dostál explained why transport needs digitalization and introduced the concept of Transport Digital Twins – their design, the possibilities of using artificial intelligence, and examples of digital twin applications in Europe. He also outlined the phases leading to a transport digital twin in the Czech Republic.
Petr Dovolil focused on institutional approaches to developing integrated digital solutions for built‑up areas worldwide and presented a concrete example from the United Kingdom – a project implemented in England in 2018.
Representatives of the Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Industry and Trade, Ministry for Regional Development, Ministry of Education, EIB, CTU, MOA, and other partners, including Gabriela Mates, participated in the meeting and subsequent discussion.
The meeting also took place in the new headquarters and facilities of the National Centre for Transport 4.0, which will provide improved conditions for cooperation between academia, the state, and industry.
