The BUSINESS4LIFE project aims to mobilise Czech companies as active and responsible actors in achieving the objectives of the EU Nature Restoration Regulation (NRR) and the corresponding National Nature Restoration Plans. The project addresses the challenge of private sector engagement through a systematic company-level approach, building internal corporate capacities to understand and assess their impacts and dependencies on nature.

The project’s core instrument is the NatureRestore Toolkit—an innovative methodology for assessing corporate impacts, risks, and opportunities related to nature. The methodology is calibrated to the specific conditions of the Czech and Central European economy and is directly applicable to CSRD ESRS E4 reporting requirements.

The methodology is validated through a structured four-level corporate engagement cohort programme, the outcomes of which are independently monitored and documented as case studies to support replication across Central and Eastern European countries.

In addition, the project will develop a catalogue of implementation tools, a database of local nature restoration projects, and a practical guide for preparing a corporate Nature Transition Plan, providing companies with concrete support to move from assessment to implementation.

The project is submitted under the LIFE-2026-SAP-NAT-GOV – Nature Governance and Information call, which aims to promote behavioural change among relevant stakeholders in support of the implementation of EU legislation on nature and biodiversity. Within this context, businesses are identified as a key stakeholder group that has so far been insufficiently engaged.

Should the project be selected for EU funding, the project team will work closely with the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) team throughout its implementation.
