On 27 August 2026, the European Investment Bank (“EIB”) approved a new EUR 9.2 billion financing package aimed at strengthening Europe’s competitiveness, accelerating the energy transition, and deepening strategic partnerships worldwide. The package includes EUR 4.3 billion for businesses, including those in Czechia, primarily channelled through local financial institutions. Additional information on EIB activities in Czechia can be found here.
The financing will mainly support small and medium-sized enterprises operating in the fields of security and defence, space, energy, and agriculture. The initiative seeks to foster innovation, strengthen Europe’s economic resilience, and help companies adapt to evolving geopolitical and economic challenges.
The EIB Board also approved funding for energy infrastructure projects, including electricity networks in Germany and Greece, solar energy investments in Italy, and district-heating infrastructure in Lithuania. These projects are expected to contribute to greater European energy autonomy and reduced dependence on fossil fuels.
Beyond the European Union, the EIB will support projects in Brazil, Egypt, Kosovo, and several African countries. Through these investments, the Bank continues to advance the EU’s Global Gateway strategy, promoting sustainable partnerships and long-term economic development worldwide.
