On 24 September 2026, the European Investment Bank (“EIB”) announced that it will provide advisory support to the Czech Technical University in Prague (“CTU”) for the redevelopment of the Prague-Strahov student housing complex. Built in the 1960s, the complex currently offers up to 4,400 beds, but many of its buildings have deteriorated due to years of limited maintenance.
The project aims to transform Strahov into an integrated university district and to improve the availability of affordable, high-quality student housing. The redevelopment is also expected to contribute to the wider transformation of the Strahov district.
CTU noted that the dormitories currently have an occupancy rate of just 53%, limiting funding for repairs and creating a cycle of decline. The advisory assignment will run until the end of 2027 and is being delivered through the InvestEU Advisory Hub. The EIB will assist CTU in preparing an international urban-design competition and developing a phased redevelopment plan.
