On 28 September 2026, the European Commission launched a call for evidence on the upcoming Waste Early Warning Report 2027. To find out more information, click on this link.

The initiative will assess Member States’ progress towards 2030 waste targets for packaging waste reduction, municipal waste preparing for re-use and recycling, packaging waste recycling, recycling targets for different packaging materials, and food waste reduction.

The Commission will also evaluate progress towards the 2035 target for municipal waste landfill. As part of this assessment, it will identify Member States at risk of not meeting these targets and provide recommendations to improve their performance.

The consultation is currently open for feedback, and stakeholder input will be taken into account as the Commission further develops and refines the initiative. Feedback can be submitted until 26 October 2026 (midnight Brussels time).
