On 28 July 2026, the European Commission launched a public consultation on proposed amendments to the Regional Aid Guidelines (“RAG“). The objective is to enable Member States to prepare new regional aid maps for the 2028-2034 period, replacing the current framework that expires at the end of 2027. Regional State aid is one of the European Union’s key tools for promoting economic development and territorial cohesion in less advantaged regions. The RAG define the conditions under which Member States may grant support for investments and job creation.

The public consultation is open to public authorities, businesses, organisations and citizens until 30 September 2026. Stakeholder feedback will inform the final amendments and the future RAG for the next programming period 2028-2034.
