On 20 July 2026, the European Commission launched the Digital Product Passport Registry (“Rejstřík DPP”), marking a major milestone in the practical implementation of digital product passports across the EU Single Market. The Registry is expected to improve supply chain transparency, support circular economy objectives and facilitate regulatory compliance for businesses. Further information on the DPP Registry is available at this link.
Established under the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (“ESPR“), a Digital Product Passport will serve as a digital container of product information throughout a product’s lifecycle. The DPP Registry provides the secure infrastructure required to register unique product identifiers and related metadata, while product information itself remains stored in a decentralised manner.
Starting with batteries early next year, the system will gradually cover a wide range of product groups, including textiles, steel, aluminium, tyres, furniture, ICT equipment and e-waste as well as construction products. It also introduces clear rules for registration, user verification and data management, helping to ensure interoperability and trust across the Single Market.
Alongside the launch, the Commission made available a testing environment, technical documentation and implementation guidance for businesses. The first mandatory application deadline is set for 18 February 2027 for certain categories of large batteries, giving economic operators time to prepare and integrate the requirements into their systems.
