Introduction

Climate change and energy security present principal and very pressing challenges to our prosperity and quality of life. Therefore, major companies in the Czech Republic decided to join forces and work together via Project RETHINK:

  • to deliver solutions and support appropriate measures to combat the climate change; and
  • to establish ways to become more resilient to energy shortages, their high prices and external supply disruptions.

Created by the Czech Business Council for Sustainable Development (Czech BCSD) and supported by many leading companies as well as partner associations and NGOs in the Czech Republic, Project RETHINK is a CEO-led initiative of like-minded companies committed to the successful transition a Net Zero economy by delivering effective, practical and measurable solutions.

The Innovation Forum on Climate Change and Energy Security (“Forum“) is a public kick-off event of the RETHINK project. It will showcase specific ways in which Czech-based companies are rethinking how they operate their businesses designed to ensure their long-term sustainability, resilience and competitiveness and contribute at the same time to a greater prosperity, environmental protection and social levels of Czech society. This event will provide an opportunity to learn about up-to-date innovative approaches to Net Zero and energy security and share ideas about how we reap the benefits of transitioning to a carbon-free economy across selected sectors of Czech economy.

With growing evidence that climate change poses both significant systemic financial and business risk (also a source of business opportunities and innovations), the RETHINK Project reflects the imperative for the Czech business community to play a pro-active role in protecting long-term economic, social and environmental prosperity and competitiveness of the Czech Republic.

The Forum comprises six thematic panels featuring senior managers of major innovative Czech-based firms addressing by way of stand-up presentations and subsequent discussions the topics of Energy Security and Decarbonization, Transport and Mobility, Buildings and Construction, the Circular Economy, Water and ESG & Sustainable Finance.

The need for real energy security caused by current world events adds a new and urgent impetus to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels in a smart manner. This makes the Forum, kindly hosted by French Institute in Prague, particularly timely and valuable.
