On 11 August 2026, PwC and the Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials (“PCAF“) announced a new partnership aimed at helping banks, investors and other financial institutions measure, manage and disclose financed greenhouse gas emissions(“GHG“). As part of the collaboration, PwC has become a global partner within PCAF’s Accredited Partner Programme, supporting financial institutions in implementing internationally recognised methodologies for emissions associated with lending and investment activities. The full article is available at this link.
Founded in 2019, PCAF has developed the world’s most widely used standard for measuring and disclosing financed emissions. Its methodology is used by financial institutions globally and is referenced in major sustainability reporting frameworks, including IFRS S2 and the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) under the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).
Through the partnership, PwC will provide support in areas including emissions baselining, calculation automation, data governance, target-setting, disclosure readiness and independent assurance. The organisations expect the collaboration to strengthen the quality, consistency and transparency of greenhouse gas accounting across the financial sector.
The partnership announcement comes as financial institutions face growing expectations from regulators, investors and other stakeholders for robust measurement and disclosure of climate impacts associated with investment and lending portfolios. For many banks and investors, financed GHG emissions represent the largest share of their overall carbon footprint and are becoming increasingly important for climate risk management and decarbonisation strategies.
