On 22 June 2026, the European Securities and Markets Authority (“ESMA”) published the register of external reviewers under the European Green Bonds (EuGB) Regulation, marking a key milestone in the implementation of the framework. The list of firms no longer providing external reviews is available here.

External reviewers play a critical role in ensuring that European Green Bonds comply with EU taxonomy requirements, including both pre-issuance and post-issuance reviews. Under the new regime, ESMA acts as the direct supervisor of these entities. From 21 June 2026, only ESMA-registered firms are allowed to provide external review services, following the end of the transition period. The register therefore serves as a key reference point for issuers and investors.

The introduction of the register strengthens transparency, credibility, and trust in the EU green bond market and supports the broader development of sustainable finance in the EU.
